[4]***A platform game which is kinda infamous because of its bizarre humor. Gameplay reminded me a lot of the original 'Wonderboy'. The game becomes very difficult soon because without precise jumps you won't stand a chance and fall down one of the numerous pits. And when you don't constantly collect fruits your life bar will decrease slowly but steadily.***This comical action game features two bungling detectives, J.J. and JEFF, as they travel through a total of six fields. One day, a request comes into their office to take a case that requires them to "rescue a wealthy man who's been kidnapped." Choose between the two characters and set off alone to outwit your partner and save the day. Each field is broken down into four areas, where enemies, as well as your partner, will try to keep you from your goal. There are many items throughout each area. Kick around in various locations to make them appear. Jump and spray-paint your way toward your goal. If you find a hidden room, you can regain health while being completely entertained by its short sketch and surreal allure.

Son Son II  NEC Avenue (Capcom)1989

[37]***The sequel of an older arcade game from Capcom. The game has excellent playability, the levels are beautiful and colorful. The difficulty level increases slowly from level to level. The biggest obstacle in later levels is the maze-like design. You have to find keys to open doors etc.

[62]***Pac-Man, the world's most famous game character is back! Help Pac-Man guide the Fairy back to her home in Fairy Land, but watch out - those mischievous ghosts are out to stop you once again! Use the Magic Shoes to help get Pac-Man back to his own home in 16 different rounds with multiple trips in each round, eating Power Pellets and bonus Fruit along the way. Fast, frantic, addictive Pac-Man action from beginning to end!***

[37]***This is a very exact conversion of the arcade original. While the game is playable and fun for a while, it shows that it is a game designed in 1984. The backgrounds are not very detailed and the sound extremely cheesy, but they are true to the original. Maybe the best conversion of this game you could play at home. Problem is, that its not impressive for a game released in 1989 and it doesn't have the evergreen status of the classic Pac-Man.

Tatsunoko Fighter  Tonkin House (Advance Communication Company)1989
[33]***Below average platform game, mainly because of its unprecise controls and jumping. Additionally there are way too many situations where it is impossible to avoid contact with the various - very strange looking - enemies. You won't die instantly because it takes some hits until you run out of life, but I don't consider it good gameplay design. Between the stages you walk through a village and upgrade your magical weapon etc. in exchange for some gold. Graphics and sound are nothing special.

[52]***What Mario on Nintendo consoles and Sonic on Sega consoles is Bonk for the PC-Engine. A highly playable and enjoyable platform game. And in contrast to the other two famous mascots, Bonk is funny, really funny. Eating vegetables restores some health, eating meat however lets him go berserk and he becomes invincible for a short period of time. Otherwise he uses his strong head against his enemies. Bonk's animations are really, well I mentioned it... funny. The start of a great series.

Legend of Hero Tonma  Irem;NEC Interchannel (Irem)1991LEGEND OF HERO TONMA is an action game that puts players in control of the magic-user Tonma, whose role - as was typical for game heroes of the day - is to travel to another world and save the princess. Fight your way through seven stages using Tonma's jump ability and shot power. Collect power-ups and barriers to grow in strength and pummel your enemies. Bring that strength to the end of each stage to face off against and defeat the menacing bosses that aim to keep you from the princess. This well-detailed game's comic visuals and feel will have players wanting to come back for more frantic and exciting action. labelimagesubject

Bonk 2: Bonk's Revenge  Hudson (Red Company)1991The "hardheaded" hero is back for more in the second installment of the Bonk series. Taking place in the Monster Kingdom, Bonk the Caveman makes his way toward King Drool III. Bonk's Revenge is a side-scrolling action game in which players Jump and "Bonk" (head-butt) their enemies while they make their way to the goal at the end of each stage. Double, even triple, attack power by eating the meat that appears in a stage. There are eight different hidden bonus stages, and the Dinosaur Train that appears after players defeat a boss will change depending on how many Smileys they've collected. With new actions such as the Triangle Jump and the ability to climb trees, as well as seven variety-packed stages, Bonk's Revenge will keep players playing over and over.***Very entertaining sidescroller. Bonk is practically the 'Sonic the Hedgehog' of Turbo Graphics 16. labelimagesubject
